The Transportation Impact project is a 3-story, mixed use executive building incorporating a roof top patio overlooking the coast of Emerald Isle. The structural design consists of a steel frame, composite slab system, with lateral resistance provided by reinforced CMU shear walls, and bearing on conventional spread footings. The high wind speeds and coastal exposure provided lateral resistance challenges throughout the design process, which were overcome through a collaborative effort with the design team to provide an efficient marriage of aesthetic form and structure.
